Saturday, May 12, marks the close of the Coalition for Community Schools 2012 National Conference in San Francisco.  The day's programming includes five opportunities to hear OUSD students, staff, and partners share their experiences in the first year of work to implement the Strategic Plan.

Community Schools National Conference Tours Westlake Middle School

Coalition for Community Schools 2012 National Forum Participants toured a handful of OUSD schools this week, including Westlake Middle School, Greenleaf Elementary, and McClymonds High.

At Westlake, attendees met with Eagle Village Community Center Youth & Family Services Staff, who run the school's Family Resource Center and other service programs, and heard a panel of speakers, including Westlake students.  See a slideshow from the event, below.

It has been a long climb, but OUSD's financial footing is back on the right track. “When we got the District back from state control, there was a $40 million structural deficit, which meant that the expenditures were $40 million more than the revenues,” said Smith. “Going into this budget cycle, we will have eliminated that. So we will be structurally sound as an organization and able to focus on high quality academics and services for kids.”
